New All-Inclusive Cabinet Solution Lowers Costs for Low Line Count Deployments
RICHARDSON, TX–(MARKET WIRE)–Aug 23, 2007 — TXCO (OTC BB:TXPO.OB – News), a leading provider of OSP cabinet retrofit solutions, announced today the launch of its new Armadillo RE-100 cabinet. The Armadillo, optimized for applications of 100 lines or less, offers a fully self-contained solution for low cost access deployments and significantly lowering installation costs when compared to pad mounted cabinet solutions.
The Armadillo represents a new generation of cabinet for applications at the periphery of the network, providing mounting space for any 19″ rack mount system with a height of 2 RU or less. Within its fully sealed GR-487 compliant enclosure, the Armadillo provides:
Integrated cooling consisting of fan, heatsink and solar shield
Termination and protection for 100 copper lines
Termination, spooling and routing for transport fibers
AC or DC (Express) power supply depending on model selected
Complete environmental and power alarms
Designed for installation in close proximity to end-user customers, the Armadillo was designed with visual appeal in mind, offering a low profile, aesthetically pleasing beige powder coat finish, and mounting arrangements for installation to building studs that are concealed by the cabinet body. A mounting kit is also available for pole mount applications.
“The deployment cost of a pad mounted cabinets is increasingly becoming prohibitively expensive for service delivery applications of 100 lines or less,” says Paul Forzisi, TXCO’s Vice President of Marketing. “The Armadillo represents the first fully integrated cabinet solution that includes everything a successful remote deployment requires, most importantly the cooling features that are so critical for the latest generation of access systems. Thanks to the intrinsic cooling features developed as part of the enclosure, its thermal capacity is equal to pad mounted cabinets several times its size,” adds Forzisi.
As service providers’ networks continue to extend further from their central offices, solutions like TXCO’s Armadillo are expected to represent an increasing portion of the OSP access infrastructure for last-mile service delivery. To serve this market segment, TXCO also offers a degree of customization to the RE-100 to meet the specific needs of each access vendor’s system, including small FTTH Optical Line Terminals and Gigabit Ethernet products. TXCO’s standard RE-100 is available immediately.
About TXCO
TXCO Corporation is an Original Design Manufacturer (ODM) for the telecommunications industry. Based in Richardson, Texas, TXCO has three primary business units: TXCO-Texas Prototypes, TXCO-Retrofit Solutions, and TXCO-ONT Solutions. TXCO-Texas Prototypes provides pre-manufacturing services for the electronics industry that help original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) bring products to market both faster and more cost effectively. TXCO-Retrofit Solutions provides custom engineering kits to enable ILEC’s (Incumbent Local Exchange Carriers) to upgrade their local access service delivery infrastructure at minimum cost and time. TXCO’s retrofit kits enable a wide range of next generation telecom platforms to easily fit into the variety of remote cabinets that have been broadly deployed by ILEC’s over the last 30 years. TXCO-ONT Solutions comprises the former Siemens’ Optical Network Terminal (ONT) development team hired in late 2006. This group develops and markets via an ODM model the iPhotonics family of ONT products to both OEMs and ILECs to be private-label branded. The ONT technology terminates the passive optical network at the home or business location, and enables integrated voice, video and high-speed internet access.
